MEDITATION TECHNIQUE: A PREDICTOR FOR STRESS MANAGEMENT

Abstract

Abstract:- Indian society is undergoing rapid changes due to many contemporary trends in the form of industrialization, liberalization, modernization, automation etc. These changes have impacted the health profile of employees. Workload has increased in many folds (additional time in their workplace, deadline to finish tasks, work from home) that creates stress among them. Stress is the reaction of people to excessive pressure or demands faced by them. In simple words, stress occurs when pressure or demand exceeds from the internal strength of a person. For dual career couples it‟s difficult to balance their work and family roles and could lead to job stress and work-family conflict. When work roles, obligations and expectations spillover into family roles and functioning is known as work family conflict. They have to perform one role at the cost of other. There are incompatible demands between work and family roles of such individuals that makes participation in both roles more difficult. Such inter role conflict create stress and affects family, marital relationship and performance at works. In this study stress management technique that is meditation has been suggested in coping the stress among dual career couples. Through correlation and regression, the association between meditation and stress management has been examined and found positive contribution in managing the stress.
